Installation

Install goat on macOS or Linux and complete first-run setup.

On this page

goat supports macOS and Linux on x86_64 and arm64. Windows builds are not available.

Install the latest release

Run the installer:

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/goat-agent/goat/main/install.sh | sh

The installer downloads the latest release, verifies its checksum when local tooling is available, and places the binary in ~/.goat/bin.

Make sure that directory is on your PATH, then verify the installation:

goat --help

Run the guided setup to connect a provider and optionally create an agent:

goat setup

You can add more providers later:

goat provider login anthropic
goat provider login openai

For any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, create a named provider:

goat provider add local --endpoint http://127.0.0.1:11434/v1

Open the coding interface:

goat code

Or start the daemon independently for agents and channels:

goat daemon start
goat daemon status

goat does not register a system service. The daemon detaches from the terminal and remains resident until you stop it with goat daemon stop.
